7 Terrible Foods You Should Never Put In Your Mouth

An apparently extreme idea was introduced in grocery stores a short while ago- the compulsory nutrition information label. It was put in place to aid customers to have an idea of what was in their food, and it required food processors to be more transparent about what ingredients they put in the food they produced.

However, this resulted in a lot of confusion, since Big Food sought new ways to sneak questionable substances known to cause cancer onto the nutrition labels. They hid them in small prints, with abbreviations and chemical chart names that the ordinary consumer couldn’t even pronounce.

To help explain the label issues, here are seven ingredients you should never put in your shopping cart:

1. Aspartame
if the label reads Equal or NutraSweet, don’t buy that food item. It is a chemical sweetener that contains Phenylalanine, which is a neurotoxin scientists believe can result in an alteration of brain function, cause mental retardation in fetuses when consumed by expectant mothers, and behavioral changes in adults. In addition to these problems, it can also cause severe headaches, gastrointestinal distress, seizures and menstrual problems.

2. BHA and BRT
These two chemicals are similar and are used to prevent foods which contain oil from going rancid. Evidently, it looks like its got an admirable use. But they come with serious health concerns- been shown to cause cancer in lab rats, hamsters and mice. Keep away from foods that contain BHT and BHA.

3. Food Coloring
They are added to foods to make them look more appealing to the eyes. But they do have a very ugly side. Caramel coloring is manufactured in industries with harmful industrial solvents and carcinogens. Red Dye 40 and Yellow 6 are linked to aggressive behaviors and impulse problems in infants, and Red Dye No3 is closely linked to tumor development. Keep away from foods laced with these food colorings.

4. Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein
Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein (HVP) are chemically treated, flavor-enhancing protein substances, which are very similar to mono sodium glutamate (MSG). Therefore, you can still wind up sick with a headache, heart problems, migraines and other terrible diseases. Two other members of the MSG family to stay away from are autolyzed yeast extract and hydrolyzed yeast extract. They make most sensitive people feel awful.

5. Parabens
Parabens are chemical preservatives usually found in beauty product, but strangely, is now being added to baked foods like bread, pies, cakes, pastries, and some processed meats. They are formulated to prevent mold growth and there is evidence that points to the fact that parabens in food may play a major role in hormone-related problems in women- such as breast cancer, ovarian cancer and reduced testosterone in men. Keep away!

6. Partially Hydrogenated Oil
Partially hydrogenated oil and trans-fat are basically the same. Most people don’t realize that, although a product may claim to contain “0g trans-fat” as long as there is less than half a gram per serving. For this reason, if you see it on the label, don’t purchase it- it doesn’t matter if they say it is trans-fat free. It certainly does make your food less likely to spoil, but it also clogs your arteries, lowers good cholesterol and increases bad cholesterol- not desirable at all.

7. Nitrites
Meat would start to spoil and look unattractive if left unadulterated for a brief period of time. To solve this problem, food manufacturers add nitrites and refrigerate the meat. This results in a longer shelf-life and a great improvement in the fresh looking red color of the meat. But when humans ingest this, it could lead to diseases like allergic reactions and migraines. A daily intake of nitrite-laden meat can increase the risk of cancer tumors, according to recent research findings.
Since most foods contain nitrites and it might be difficult to totally avoid eating such, it is advisable to begin each meal with antioxidants like Vitamins C and E to protect your body. It is important to note, however, that naturally occurring nitrites like those found in vegetables are not harmful to your health in anyway.

While it is absolutely important to read labels in order to make excellence diet choices, a more radical and simpler approach would be to stop buying foods that have labels on them. Instead, switch to natural, whole, organic or local, grower-to-table foods. You would get the benefit of avoiding all the dangerous additives your body certainly doesn’t need while at the same time filling up your body with healthy nutrients your body needs.
